Political and media discussion about poor immigrants from the Balkans destroyed a lot of “porcelain”, believes Central council of Sinti and Roma in Germany. Media reporting mostly contributed to that, claim experts.
“It’s true, we achieved a lot”, said Romani Rose from Berlin, commenting on the 30 years of fight against “antigypsism” in Germany. Back since the 1982 he was on the head of Central council of Sinti and Roma in Germany. 30 years ago “he couldn’t imagine a lot of things, which became possible in the meantime”. Example is one more meeting with the chancellor Angela Merkel. Earlier it was spoken about this minority as the victim of national-socialism. Some German provinces, like Schvezvig-Holschstein introduced the protection of Roma minority into their Constitution. Results are really impressive, recognizes Roze, but irrelevant from that, stigmatization of Roma is again getting of weight in public discussions.”
