Roma in Serbia are having poorer life conditions than the general population and Roma children are more often malnourished and significantly rarely attend pre-school education, but also regular education, that’s what have shown research that was presented on 3rd July. Physical punishment of children is significantly more often at Roma children and even 37% of women in Roma settlements believe that husband has right to hit woman in some circumstances, that’s what have shown research by United Nations Child Fund (UNICEF) and the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia.

“Results of research have shown that gap between women and children in Roma settlements and remaining of population have deepened in relation to 2010. Differences between poor and rich, boys and girls and rural and village environments are greater and greater”, said UNICEF director Michael Sent Lo on the press-conference in Belgrade.
